I’m Sam Dubeau. (*cue digital handshake)
I am an independent graphic designer, illustrator, and letterer currently stationed in Toronto, Ontario. As part of my business, I run Have & Hold Design, focusing on bespoke/custom stationery for weddings and special events.
“How did you end up here?”, you might ask.
Since I was small, I’ve been exploring creative activities from colouring books to music lessons, to sewing on my grandmother’s sewing machine. After graduating high school with an Arts Plus Certificate that included studies in photography, theatre, and lino printing, pursuing a design degree seemed to be the next natural step. I attended the York/Sheridan Joint Program in Design and continued to delve into a variety of art forms ranging from video editing to book binding. Over the years, my work has exhibited a strong connection to handmade objects and processes, but my love affair with pixels never faded. Thus began the pursuit to achieve a beautiful balance between the digital and physical.
Whether I’m playing with pixels or paper, my heart is fullest when I am creating.
Now as a full-time freelance designer, my time is divided between the conceptualization and production of design goods, creative development for small businesses, and leading workshops within the city focused on hand lettering and calligraphy skills.
I’ve felt fortunate and flattered to be highlighted on popular blogs such as DesignWorkLife, Creature Comforts, Apartment Therapy and Swiss Miss, as well as published in Sweet Magazine and I Heart Stationery by Charlotte Rivers.
